Case Study/Real-Time Seismic Monitoring in Yunnan: GUOWEI Nodal Arrays Advance Regional Earthquake Surveillance

Sep 23,2026

🌏 Real-Time Seismic Monitoring with Nodal Arrays in Southwest China

GUOWEI nodal seismographs have recently been deployed in Yunnan Province, one of the most seismically active regions in China, through close collaboration with the Yunnan Earthquake Agency and the University of Science and Technology of China.
Using our 4G-enabled nodal seismograph (UGL-3C), dense mobile arrays were installed across multiple key areas, including Eryuan, Ludian, Jinggu, Tengchong, and Shangri-La. Seismic data are transmitted in real time to a central server, enabling instant event detection, waveform review, and earthquake location via web-based platforms.
Compared with traditional broadband stations, nodal systems offer clear advantages in deployment speed, cost efficiency, and array density, making them an effective complement to existing seismic networks—especially in tectonically complex and high-risk regions.
This technology has already proven its reliability in long-term monitoring projects, such as aftershock observation and reservoir-induced seismicity monitoring, and is now being scaled up for wider regional applications.
With the advancement of nodal seismic technology, high-density, intelligent, and real-time monitoring arrays are becoming a powerful tool not only for earthquake monitoring, but also for urban subsurface investigation, infrastructure safety, and mining risk assessment.
At GUOWEI, we remain committed to delivering practical geophysical solutions that enhance seismic monitoring capabilities and help build a safer future.
